Nikwax was first commercially produced in 1977 by outdoor enthusiast Nick Brown.  Being keen on hiking he quickly got fed up with outdoor boots and clothes not being totally waterproof and created his own wax waterproofing for boots.  His product, which did not soften boots so that they lost form and support, was so effective that aftercare products soon evolved to this new standard.  Nikwax took the industry by storm and very quickly was sold in eight countries.

In the 1980s Nick turned to clothing, and following the trend for environmentally friendly products, he eliminated the use of harmful and inflammable solvents and fluorocarbons which had previously been used in waterproofing products and created the Nikwax Water-Based Range, water-based products to restore waterproofing to clothes simply by using the washing machine.

The Nikwax family has grown to match modern technological advances in waterproofing and has ranges which enhance the qualities of products such as Gore-Tex® and eVENT® meaning it is now able to restore waterproofing and water-repellency to varied items such as fleeces, gaiters, tents, sleeping bags and duvets. 

Nikwax still retains its original traditional waterproofing products in neutral or coloured and the range has evolved to waterproof combinations of fabric and leather as well as simply leather.

NUBUCK & SUEDE waterproofing for nubuck and suede leathers.  Maintains texture of leather.

POLARRPOOF makes synthetic and wool insulated clothing highly water-repellent.  Ideal for Skiwear, fleece and Polartec®.  Also recommended for adding water-repellency to synthetic and microfibre garments.

SOFTSHELL PROOFING restores the durable water-repellent finish to all soft-shell garments while maximising breathability.

TECH WASH cleans and protects the water-repellent finish on waterproof clothing, equipment, synthetic insulated garments and sleeping bags.  Suitable for Gore-Tex®, Ultrex®, Entrant®, eVENT® and Triple Point®.
