As we embark on the new seasons we thought it worth producing a few short blogs to give our thoughts on what clothing, footwear and equipment is needed and how to choose what you need to ensure you enjoy your activities to the full. With an ever-changing and unpredictable weather pattern the secret is to be prepared for all weathers.
In our opinion the foundation of any good beating, shooting, or hunting outfit is a great jacket. Country Catalogue has an enormous range starting at under £90 for our incredible tough wearing Lavenir Jacket through to £625 for the highly technical and advanced Musto Lightweight Washable Tweed. In between we have a wide range from brands including Hoggs of Fife, Seeland, Deerhunter and Alan Paine.
Your choice of jacket will not only depend upon budget but what you intend to do. If you enjoy a lot of beating a coat which is more protective of barbed wire, hedgerow and can be easily washed will probably be very different from what you would require for a days shooting, although there are always crossovers.
So, focussing for a moment on Lavenir. Country Catalogue has an online history dating back over 25 years and has therefore a wealth of experience across a multitude of brands. The Lavenir Shooting Jacket is an excellent value jacket in a tough and durable cotton weave fabric. A hydrophilic coating on the underside of the material ensures that the jacket is 100% waterproof, windproof and breathable. Additionally, all seams are taped and sealed to help you stay dry.
It is our best-selling beating coat and even worn by members of the Country Catalogue team as their beating jacket of choice. The checked fleece lining keeps the inside warm and cosy (without being too thick and heavy) whilst the storm fly front with two-way brass zipper enables easy movement. Other features include a detachable hood, a large inside game pocket and a Velcro wallet pocket, two large bellow pockets with press studded storm flaps and weather openings and hand warmer pockets with a fleece lining for extra warmth. The Lavenir is also now available in Tweed
You may of course choose more traditional Tweed as your preferred choice. Stocking products from Alan Paine and Hoggs of Fife allows our clients to access great products at industry leading prices. Our particular favourites are the Rutland products from Alan Paine, available for Ladies, Gents and Kids and also the Harewood range from Hoggs of Fife, amazing value for money without comprising waterproofing or warmth.

Once your jacket has been chosen and whether it a touch hard wearing tweed or a more modern technical and breathable product we are on hand to give advice about matching garments including a huge range of country shirts.
